PURPOSE:To perform registration of a character string by means of a terminal device only, by registering rows of characters corresponding to the rows of keys in the terminal device and installing a means which inputs the registered character rows through depression of one key to the terminal device. CONSTITUTION:When the character-string registration mode switching key 13 of a keyboard section 3 is depressed, the mode is switched from the usual input operating mode to the character string registration operating mode. When a row of characters corresponding to one key is inputted in accordance with an instruction from a display section 2, a registered character string controlling section 14 stores the row of characters in a registered character string storage section 15. When a key of the keyboard section 3 is depressed after the mode is switched to the usual input operating mode by depressing the key 13 thereafter, character codes are sent to the controlling section 14. The controlling section 14 judges whether the character codes are registered keys or not and, when they are not registered, sends the character codes to a program 7 under the same condition. When they are registered, the controlling section 14 sends a row of characters received from the storage section 15 to the program 7 as output signals.
