PURPOSE:To prevent phase shift by providing a couple of slits at an interval larger than a main scanning recording width and providing an approach section between a start point and a last point of the main scanning recording from a slit detecting point. CONSTITUTION:A picture reciprocating recorder provided with a recording head 4 and a scanning unit 3 scans and records a picture by scanning reciprocating the recording head in the broadwise direction of a recording paper sheet 1. Then, a couple of slits 9a, 9b having a larger interval than the scanning recording width are provided to a code plate 8 opposite to a slit detection section 6 for positioning recording head provided to the scanning unit 3. Further, a trigger generator receiving a slit detecting signal from the slit detecting section and generating a trigger signal, an approach counter receiving the trigger signal and performing count of a prescribed value for the head approach section at the main scanning region, a recoring counter counting of the scanning recording region and a recording and driving circuit are provided.
