The charging state (D) of a battery is defined as the ratio between the capacity supplied by the battery and its nominal capacity, expressed in ampere-hours. The process for measuring the charging state involves determining the slope of the curve giving the variation in the battery voltage (E) with time (t) at a conveniently chosen observation time (t3), while the battery is being discharged by a measured constant current (i). The slope is taken to be a quantity representative of the charging state of the battery. The process can be used with advantage for the rapid, accurate and non-destructive testing of batteries intended for use in portable appliances, e.g. electronic watches, in order to check the state of the battery before it is introduced into the appliance. <IMAGE> |
