PURPOSE:To attain high-density recording/reproducing proper to the reading of information and to form a thin film magnetic head in high yield by constituting said head by a terminal connected with a detecting part and shielding magnetic layers formed on the upper and lower parts of the detecting part or one of these parts by a mask vapor-depositing method or photolithographic process. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic material consisting of 83 Ni.Fe is vapor-deposited on a quartz plate 13 with about 1mum thickness by a vacuum vapor-deposition method or the like to form the pattern of the 1st shielding layer 14, an insulating layer 15 consisting of SiO with 3,000-5,000Angstrom thickness is formed and insulated, a thin film magnetic head 16 is formed on the insulating layer 15, and then an insulating layer 17 and the 2nd shielding layer 18 are formed on the magnetic head 16. Information using magnetic resistance effects is detected by detecting the change of a resistance value between the terminal patterns 1 and 2. When the shape anisotropy of a magnetic resistance effect element is changed by the magnetic field generated from a magnetic tape, the resistance value is changed, so that recording information can be read out. |
