PURPOSE:To reduce the electric power in electrodeposition painting and the amt. of the paint to be used by performing electrodeposition painting on a vehicle body at the voltage regulated to meet the surface area of the vehicle body selected prior to start of electrodeposition painting and selecting automatically the necessary voltage to be impressed on the vehicle body of various vehicle types in the stage of electrodeposition painting. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle body 4 is conveyed 2 by a hanger 3 in an electrodeposition tank 1, and electrodeposition painting is performed in the fully submerged electricity conducting section B in the tank 1 and thereafter the vehicle body is pulled up from the tank 1 and thereafter the vehicle body is pulled up from the tank 1 and is conveyed 2 to the succeeding stage. A zone A for selecting the kind of the vehicle body which detects electrically the kind of the body 4 is provided on the inlet 5 side of the tank 1 in this case and is set automatically at the impressed voltage meeting the body 4 in accordance with said selection signal in the section B in the tank 1. The entry of the body 4 in the tank 1 is detected by means of plural sets of photoelectric tube devices 6a, 6b and a lead switch LS1 provided in the conveyance route for the body 4 conveyed 2 in the zone A. The voltage meeting the body 4 is set by a lead switch LS2 in accordance with the signal selected by the devices 6a, 6b in the section B. The full submergence of the body 4 in the tank 1 is further confirmed and the voltage is increased by a lead switch LS3 up to the set voltage transmitted by the switch LS2.
