693,133. Transmission line arrangements. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. Feb. 26, 1951 [March 10, 1950], No. 4659/51. Class 38 (iv). [Also in Group XXXVII] In a high-voltage transmission system, airblast switches are suspended from the line towers so as to avoid the need for high switchsupporting insulating pillars. In Fig. 1, a line tower 53 supporting a line 51 has suspension insulators 59, 60 carrying an air-blast switch 55 which is provided with symmetrically-arranged arc-extinguishing chambers 56, 57 and a compressed air reservoir 58. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the switch is supported by a single rigid suspension insulator. Isolating switches, the operation of which may be synchronized with that of the air-blast switch may be carried by the adjacent line towers, Fig. 4 (not shown). Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates the double-break switch of Specification 642,176, [Group XXXVII], modified for suspension mounting. The switch 55 is controlled remotely from the ground by pneumatic or hydraulic means, an insulating tube 61, Fig. 1, being provided for this purpose Specifications 615,030, 642,176 and 667,724, [all in Group XXXVII], are referred to. |
