PURPOSE:To improve the KANA(Japanese syllabary)-KANJI (Japanese syllabary) (Chinese character), converting efficiency of a Japanese word processor by feeding a Japanese sentence after dividing it into prefixes, independent words and the rest clauses for each clause of reading KANA characters and then inserting blanks and dividing marks among said divided sections. CONSTITUTION:A Japanese sentence is divided into prefixes, independent words and the rest clauses for each clause of the reading KANA characters. Then blanks or specific marks are put among those divided sections by means of a key 11. A read input circuit 2 checks the reading characters, and access is given to a prefix dictionary if a blank or a dividing mark is detected. When an OK is obtained, an ordinary dictionary is used. If the OK is not obtained, HIRAGANA (cursive form of KANA) is decided. An access is given to the ordinary dictionary when no blank nor dividing mark is detected. If an OK is obtained, the prefix dictionary is used. While access is given to a proper noun dictionary if no OK is obtained. If an OK is obtained with the proper noun dictionary, access is given to the prefix dictionary with checking done with a grammar dictionary. Then the KANA/KANJI conversion is performed if an OK is obtained. When no OK is obtained with the proper noun dictionary and the grammar dictionary, the number of the retrieved characters is decreased by one character from the rear side. Then the ordinary dictionary is used again to repeat the above-mentioned procedure.
