PURPOSE:To improve printing quality, by a method wherein a thermally conductive elastic material is used for the substrates of a thermal head and partially projecting layers are provided on the individual substrates and thereon heating elements are formed. CONSTITUTION:A thermally conductive elastic material 28 is divided by slits into as many portions as the number of heating elements 25 each capable of elastic displacement at and around the tip ends thereof. In a construction wherein partially projecting layers 24 are disposed in array on the individual elastic materials and thereon the heating elements 25 are formed, a common electrode 26 and discrete electrodes 27 are respectively formed at the both sides of the heating elements 25 to allow an electric current to flow to the heating elements. In this manner, the respective heating elements can independently undergo elastic displacement, thus coming into contact with the surface of a rough paper for good compatibility with the irregularities thereof. Accordingly, ink can be transferred even on a rough paper and a printing quality can be improved. |
