Title compd. (I), useful as herbicides, were prepd. by reaction of II and reducting agent in olvent. Thus, 25g 2-(β-naphthoxy)propionic acid and 20g thionyl chloride were heated at 60-80oC for 3hr in 25ml CCL gave 27g crude 2-(β-naphthoxy)propionic acid chloride A soln. of 3.5g 2-(β-naphthoxy) propionic acid chloride in 20ml ether was dropped in 30ml ether contg. 1.2g arylamine and 2.2g triethylamine, reacted at 0oC for 1hr to give 3.7g N-aryl-2(β-naphthoxy)propionic acid amide.
