PURPOSE:The titled compound effective in preventing embrittlement, coloration, etc., of synthetic resin, obtained by reacting poly(vinylbenzyl) chloride) with a 2,2'-alkylidenebis(4,6-disubstituted phenol). CONSTITUTION:The poly(vinylbenzoyloxybisphenol) compound of this invention having a repeating unit of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-4C alkyl, and R3 is methylene or a 2-9C alkylidene) and a degree of polymerization of 2-250 and being useful as a stabilizer for synthetic resins. An example of a process for producing this compound comprises chloromethylating polystyrene to produce poly(vinylbenzylchl chloride) and reacting this compound with a 2,2'-alkilidenebis(4,6-disubstituted phenol), e.g., 2,2'-methylenebis(4,6-dimethylphenol), in an organic solvent in the presence of a basic catalyst.
