For transport in pipelines using liquid or gaseous transport media, for example water or air, the solids occurring in lump form in extraction or production, for example coal or ore, are first comminuted and then combined to form compact material units of the same kind with easily transported shapes, for example as spheres or cylindrical bodies, as described in the main Patent Application P 3307902. Additional technical and economic advantages result from a systematically alternating sequence of material units in the pipe, preferably cylindrical material units with good shear effect and between them spherical units with relatively low transport resistance following sucessively at distances. By the use of cylindrical bodies with good shear effect in the form of preshaped material units or specially constructed shear elements, advantageous possibilities also result for the pipe transport of irregularly lumpy material or of fine-grained material in a suspension.
