By means of a barcode which is applied to the carriageway, is suitable for the specific purpose and contains an item of switching information for an on-board computer, which can be read by sensors when the vehicle travels over it, it is possible to represent traffic signs on a display, to influence motor vehicle functions and to control a signal receiver for current traffic information. By virtue of this method, the costly laying of induction loops for use in so-called communication systems and destination guidance systems can be dispensed with.
