PURPOSE:To prevent the self discharge of a lead storage battery by adding N- nitrosophenylhydroxylamineammonium chloride, etc. to the electrolyte of a lead storage battery or its electrolyte-addition liquid. CONSTITUTION:N-nitrosophenylhydroxylaminammonium chloride or N-nitrosonaphthylhydroxylaminammonium chloride is added to the electrolyte of a lead storage battery. In addition, the said material is added to the electrolyte-addition liquid of the lead storage battery. The said ammonium chloride forms the stable chelate coupling with antimony, iron, and other metals eluted in a sulfuric acid liquid and prevents the deposition of the metals on the surface of an electrode and has an effect of preventing the reduction of the capacity of the battery. Especially, it is effective for preventing the self discharge caused by the deposition of antimony, etc. of the battery on the surface of the electrode and the reduction of the capacity caused by it. |
