In a switching system which is equipped with power circuit breakers, it is intended to create the capability to cause the circuit breakers to be opened in the event of an interfering arc, with the aid of a triggering device which uses no auxiliary energy. This object is achieved by means of a photo-element (1) whose initial energy is transmitted to a triggering device (2). This triggering device is coupled to the latch of a power circuit breaker (4). The invention is mainly used in switching systems in which power circuit breakers are used. <IMAGE>
