The subject of the invention is a photoelectric barrier arrangement for printers or machines of similar type, pulses being generated by means of the photoelectric barrier and influencing, via an electronic control circuit, the motors for the rotary adjustment of the type element and the carriage movement. By means of the new arrangement, a photoelectric barrier can be dispensed with. Both the shutter on the axis of the type element and a shutter on the carriage interact with one and the same photoelectric barrier. Which shutter interrupts the light beam is detected by means of a timing element in the electronic control circuit.
