Title compds.(I;R1=cyano, C1-4 alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl N-substituted carbamoyl, phenyl, substituted Ph; R=H, C1-4 alkyl; R3=C1-4 alkyl; Y=H, Cl, methoxy; Z=C2-4 linear or branched sat. aliph. hydrocarbon), used as anodyne, were prepd. from V(X=halogen atoms) and VI. Thus, 22.1g 4-phenyl-l(2H)-isoquinolone and 20g anh. K2CO3 in 100ml DMF were stirred for 2hr at 100oC. Then, 11g 3-chloropropane was added and stirred for 5hr at 100oC. Remove solvent and residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2. Washed with water and dried. Remove solvent and recrystallization gave 23g 2-(3-hydroxypropyl)-4-phenyl-l(2H)-isoquinolone. (m.p. 84oC)
