PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high adhesive strength, good lubricity and a long still life by forming continuously a magnetic film of a ferromagnetic Co alloy, etc. on a high polymer substrate then forming an org. material layer of a higher fatty acid, etc. by diagonal vapor deposition on the film surface. CONSTITUTION:A thin ferromagnetic film of a Co alloy, etc. is continuously formed by a vapor deposition method, etc. on a polyethylene terephthalate film, etc. A nonmagnetic layer and a soft magnetic layer may be provided between said film and the magnetic film. An org. lubricating agent composed of a higher fatty acid such as stearic acid or its amide, etc. and the amide thereof is then diagonally deposited by evaporation on the thin ferromagnetic film in such a way that the angle (incident angle) between the normal erected on the substrate plane and the incident direction of the vapor of the org. lubricating agent attains >=40 deg.. The atmosphere for vapor deposition may be any of active gas such as O2 and inert gas such as Ar. The magnetic recording medium having good adhesive strength of the org. lubricating agent and a long still life is thus obtd. |
