PURPOSE:To perform map retrieval simply with map-data storing capacity being reduced, by storing each point in a map-data storing medium as coordinate points in a coordinate system, wherein a specified point is made to be an original point, in advance, and retrieving the map based on the frame of the point in displaying the point. CONSTITUTION:By the operation of a manual operating part 3, name retrieval or chart retrieval is specified. For the name retrieval, message display processing is executed. For prefecture-name processing, at first, a leading prefecture retrieving address is set in a pointer, administrative name data in the prefecture retrieval data is read out, and the prefecture names of the specified number as well as a cursor are displayed on the screen of a display 1. When a cursor key for upward movement is operated, a prefecture retrieving address for the next prefecture is newly set in the pointer. Meanwhile, when a cursor key for downward movement is operated, a prefecture retrieving address for the further next prefecture is set in the pointer. When a cursor key for leftward movement is operated, processing for cities, towns or villages is started. When a set key is operated, administrative-name specifying map display is executed. |
