1. Braking device (16) for heavy accelerating objects such as fire-check doors, ski-lifts, elevators, cable drums or the like, the linear or rotary movement of the objects to be braked being transmissible to a shaft (15) or hub of a braking device, characterised in that the rotary movement of the shaft (15) or hub is transmitted to an eddy current braking device (16) consisting of a permanent magnet (25) and a rotor (23) disposed at a variable distance (26) therefrom and in that the braking moment of the device can, by a flanged-on step-up gearing (17), and also the distance (26) between rotor (23) and permanent magnet (25), be so adjusted that the eddy current braking device generates maximum opposing moment and thus a uniform movement of the object at a constant speed. |
