PURPOSE:To unify the editing procedure in a table area, by giving regularity to the data structure of a table element group constituting a table. CONSTITUTION:A table element group producing means 52 operates in such a way that the first horizontal ruled line is used as a reference horizontal ruled line (a horizontal ruled line serving as the relative begining line of the table element) and two vertical ruled lines crossing with the horizontal ruled line are selected following a data link. Then next horizontal ruled line (a horizontal ruled line serving as the relative terminating line of the table element) crossing with the two vertical ruled lines is selected following the data link. Therefore, a table element is obtained. Selection to the reference horizontal ruled line is performed until the end of vertical lines, the 2nd horizontal ruled line is set as a new reference line and the new reference line is processed in the same way. By performing the above mentioned processing to the end of horizontal ruled lines, the production of the table element group is completed.
