PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of defectives and the damage of an installation by using a cylindrical water-flow-column housing and observing visually the wearing condition of the surface of a roll, the flaw generation in the surface, and the adhering of foreign matters to the surface, etc. CONSTITUTION:A titled device consists of a water-flow-column housing 2, a half mirror 3 attached to the rear end of the housing 2, a parallel light source 4, a water feeding device 5 for filling water into the housing 2, and an observing means for receiving the light reflected from the surface of a roll 1 through the mirror 3 and visualizing the light. The axial line of above-mentioned housing 2 intersects perpendicularly with respect to the roll surface 1a in the inside of a mill, and the front end of it adjoins to the surface 1a through a small gap. Further, the above-mentioned light source 4 projects freely a beam of parallel light to the surface 1a and is attached to the position capable of projecting the light to the surface 1a. |
