PURPOSE:To obtain a rubbing apparatus and its rubbing tool which applies sufficient rubbing force to the above-mentioned sheet material and are available for washing or coating, by generating rubbing force in various directions on the sheet travelling in a definite direction. CONSTITUTION:A set of appropriate number of rotary rubbing tools 3, which are arranged to cover the whole width of a sheet material 1 is suspended horizontally between fixing frames 21 and 21'. The main shaft 31 of the said set of rotary rubbing tools 3 is rotated by a prime mover 22 through a power transmitting mechanism 24, a rotary driving shaft 26 revolving at a suitable speed, and a power transforming device consisting of bevel gears 27 and 27'. A rubbing material suitable for the service is provided on the contact surface between the rotary rubbing tool 3 and the sheet material 1. In addition, single or plural sets of rotary rubbing tools 3 may be constituted. In this way, rubbing can be performed with arbitrary strength having wide selectivity.
