PURPOSE:To permit the superior layered combustion over the whole operation range by installing spark discharge means having spark discharge gaps at plural positions departed by each different distance from the curved inner wall of a combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:A single injection port type fuel injection nozzle 14 is installed with the equal inclination to that of a communication hole 12 for a cylinder, onto the ceiling part 8 of a semispherical vortex chamber 7 of a cylinder head 1, and spark plugs 25 and 26 are arranged, deflected to the minus side from an injection shaft, at the position ahead the injection flow, with the gap 31 relatively projected from the inner wall and with the gap 32 set close to, and spark discharge is generated when a crank turns by a prescribed angle. When the number of revolution of an engine is relatively low, the mixed gas having a combustible proper air-fuel ratio is formed in the vicinity of the spark discharge gap 31 of the spark plug 25, and ignited in the gap 31. Meanwhile, in case of relatively high-speed revolution, the gas is formed in the vicinity of the spark discharge gap 32 of the spark plug 26, and certain ignition is secured. Thus, the superior layered combustion is permitted over the whole operation range. |
