PURPOSE:Cellulosic fibers having the crystal structure of cellulose [III]-II and a specific crystallinity and crystal size, high elongation at break thereof and good dimensional stability to water. CONSTITUTION:Cellulosic fibers having the crystal structure of cellulose [III]- II, >=50%, preferably 50-75% crystallinity and >=20Angstrom , preferably 20-30Angstrom crystal size [average crystal size (ACS)]. The fibers can be produced by adjusting the moisture of cellulosic fibers having the crystal structure of cellulose IIto 5% or more (based on the bone-dry weight), impregnating the resultant adjusted fibers with liquid ammonia or an organic amine, stretching the impregnated fibers at 1% or more stretching ratio, and removing the ammonia or organic amine in this state. |
