A system of mountain locations (1) within a mountain range (5) retaining a mean temperature T0, is converted to a cool multi-room (1a) system for cool storage purposes, and to another warm multi-room (1b) system for dry storage purposes; whereby cool and warm rooms alternate in sequence with each other and being delimited by mountain walls (4). The temperature variation between the multi-room systems is maintained by cooling (61) and warming (63) surfaces, in conjunction with refrigeration machinery (6).
