PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin having properties such as improved resistance to water, weather, etc., plasticizability and improved electrical properties, by reacting an epoxy resin with a specified halogen compound. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin of formula I (wherein R1 is H or CH3, X is H, Cl or Br, n and m are each 1-4, A is O, SO2, S, CH2, or the like, and q is 1- 100), e.g, a compound prepared by reacting 2,2-(hydroxyphenyl)propane with an epichlorohydrin, is reacted with a compound of formula II (wherein R2 is a group of formula II, III, IV, or V or a like group, and X' is Cl or Br), e.g., (meth)acryloyl chloride in the presence of a dehalogenating agent to produce a modified epoxy resin of formula VI (wherein R1, R2, X, A, m, and q are as defined above). This modified epoxy resin is useful in adhesives, resin modifier, textile processing agents, coating materials, fillers, and materials for electronic parts.
