PURPOSE:To exhibit high-speed performance of an impeller system to the maxi- mum by positioning an arm portion on the side of a paper sheet inserted in a space between blades to pick out the paper sheet with a stopper in a fixed number accumulating and collecting unit. CONSTITUTION:A paper sheet P1 continuously transported by a transport belt 31 is fed sheet by sheet into space 11 between blades 10 of a pair of impellers 7b and rotated with rotation of the impellers 7b. When the sheet is brought into contact with a support plate 2b, the sheet gets out of the space 11 to drop on a piling device 41. A pair of separators 21a, 21b are rotated coaxially with the impellers 7, and provided with an arm 22 positioned on the side of the paper sheet and with a catch portion 23 for temporarily catching the sheet dripped on the forward end thereof. The separators are controlled to rotate in a pattern related to the counted number of sheets of a detector 63 for the number of sheets. In this arrangement, the paper sheet can be quickly fed into the space between blades out of contact with the arm portions of the separators so as to sort and accumulate a fixed number of paper sheets to be collected at high speed.
