Epimedium, e.g., Barren-wort, was extd. with H2O or aq. EtOH or aq. MeOH. The ext. was defatted with, e.g., EtOAc, to give a high mo1. wt. compd.-contg. fraction which is an immunostimularnt. The ext. has a saccharide compn. of arabinose and galactose. IR and UV data are given along with a no. of other properties. In tests on mice the phagocytic index was increased by treatment with the ext. and half-value period in blood shortened. The activity of catching colloidal C in the reticuloedothelial system was enhanced by treatment with the ext. Propagation of BC 47 cells in mice was inhibited and cellular immunity to BC 47 cell enhanced by the ext.
