PURPOSE:To remove oil permeating the inside of the clad of a light guide without cutting off the part of the guide swollen with the oil by immersing the swollen part in an org. solvent having compatibility with oil to be detected and high volatility for a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent having compatibility with oil to be detected and high volatility and not swelling the clad of a light guide is used. When the clad is made of silicone resin and oil to be detected is synthetic insulating oil such as alkylbenzene applied usually to an OF cable, alcohol or acetone is suitably used. A light guide is preferably immersed in said org. solvent for 1-2hr, yet when the guide is repeatedly immersed in the solvent and allowed to stand in the air to evaporate the solvent several times, immersion for <1hr can produce a sufficient effect. It is not necessarily required to immerse the whole light guide, and when the part of the clad swollen with oil is detected, only the part may be immersed. |
