PURPOSE:To make it possible to dump sediment in a shoal sea area, by providing such an arrangement that a ship having a hopper is longitudinally divided into two unit hulls which are transversely slid, relatively to each other, so that the bottom of the hopper is opened and closed. CONSTITUTION:The inclined inner surfaces 1A, 1B of left and right unit hulls 2A, 2B which are separated from each other along the widthwise center of a ship, define a hopper whose bottom may be opened and closed by a hydraulic cylinder 12 through a link mechanism 9, 11 for transversely sliding the left and right unit hulls 2A, 2B relatively to each other. One 2A of the unit hulls is provided with a projection 6, and the other 2A with a packing 8 so that the hopper is water-tightable upon closing of its bottom. In comparison with conventional hinge type hopper carrier ships, the above-mentioned arrangement allows the carrier ship to dump sediment in a shoal sea area.
