PURPOSE:A printer capable of printing only on a blank part of a preprinted paper, wherein whether or not a part on which printing is to be conducted is a blank part is detected, and a carriage-returning and line-shifting operation or a skipping operation is performed when a non-blank part is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a blank part is detected by a reading sensor 4, a blank part detection signal S6 is outputted, and is inputted into a controlling signal decoder 16. When a printed part is detected by the sensor 4 with the result that the signal S6 is not outputted, the decoder outputs a pattern buffer controlling signal S3, a carriage motor controlling signal S4 and a paper feed controlling signal S5 after a printing head 1 arrives at the position of the sensor 4, and a carriage-returning and line-shifting operation, a paper-feeding operation and a carriage-skipping operation are conducted. It is unnecessitated to perform a document-editing workover again in accordance with the printing paper. |
