This device for the automatic marking of metallic cylinders, which are intended to contain liquefied petroleum gas, such as butane or propane, comprises a jack intended to lift the cylinder 16 after its neck 16a has been surrounded by a stop fork 20, and in front of a marking roller 44. Another jack 17 pushes the said roller, which enters into rotation with the neck, and a subsequent translation of the neck by the jack 17, which pushes the cylinder upwards, drives the roller in rotation, marking thus being produced. It is also possible to provide a pneumatic vibrator, between the roller and its support, the plate 32, so as to obtain, with equal pressure, a deeper marking. <IMAGE>
