Arrangement to return water leaking into pump body

Water is prevented from entering the pump by a main seal. A secondary seal located behind the first prevents water entering the pump bearings. If the main seal is damaged water enters the chamber formed by the main and secondary seal then into a pipe attached to the pump. Water level sensors then switch an auxiliary pump to pump this water via a non-return valve into the header tank and radiator. If the leak becomes so excessive that the water level fills the pump a further sensor switches on a warning lamp.
