The pencil-sharpener with a container for the chips is particularly for wood-encased writing or drawing pencils. The container is formed of a metal or plastics tube (3). At the end furthest from the sharpener it can be equipped to prevent it unrolling, e.g. with a needle or safety pin, one arm of which can fit in a tunnel-type pocket. The pin can be permanently attached to the container by a string etc.
