PURPOSE:To measure the thermal expansion and contraction of ceramics in a hot press apparatus, by connecting a receiving case having a measuring instrument received therein to the lower end part of a cylinder in an air-tight state while attaching a measuring rod to the plunger received in the cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A press cylinder 16 is raised against the pressure in a furnace and hot press is started almost simultaneously when a press mold is contacted with an upper punch rod. Whereby, because a specimen is contracted as pressed by the press cylinder 6, the measuring rod 36 provided to the top part in the cylinder 16 is also raised to lift the guide pipe 34 engaged by the engaging part 36a thereof whereupon the measuring needle 33 contacted with the lower end thereof is raised corresponding to the rising degree of said pipe 34 and the contraction width of the specimen can be detected by this mechanism. Said needle 33 is attached to the upper part of the measuring instrument in a receiving case 31 which is, in turn, attached to a lower cylinder 12 in an air-tight manner. |
