Process for the preparation of a polycarbonate resin

Polycarbonates are formed by reaction of a bisphenol diester, carbon monoxide and oxygen. The initial polycarbonate product is an oligomer which polymerises after heat treatment to give a polycarbonate of high molecular weight. The products prepared in accordance with this invention are chain-terminated before the thermal treatment, which makes them less sensitive to heat and oxidation.
