A screw pump with balancing piston unilaterally arranged on the drive side on running spindles and drive spindle and serving for equalising the axial thrust, the end of which piston is acted upon, by means of ducted connection, by the pressure of the pump chamber situated at the other end of the spindle, is to be designed so that bushings, previously fitted on the balancing piston of the running spindle, and the intermediate ring on the balancing piston of the drive spindle are dispensed with. This object is essentially achieved in that the balancing pistons for running spindle and drive spindle are arranged at the same height, the receiving holes being made directly in an enclosing part of the pump housing, the diameter of the balancing piston of the running spindles being designed, for example, so that the axial thrust is equalised, the diameter of the balancing piston of the drive spindle being designed, according to the remaining distance, smaller than the diameter required for thrust equalisation, and a balancing disc also being arranged on the drive spindle in the direction of the drive side after the receiving hole enclosing the balancing piston, the diameter of which disc is at least as large as the diameter of the balancing piston theoretically required for thrust equalisation, and the balancing disc together with an end face, of the pump housing, enclosing the balancing piston ...
