In a device for the motor-driven raising and lowering of the top part of an irradiation device, especially a sun-bed, a solution is to be provided which permits a motor drive and, at the same time, guarantees that the top part is automatically raised when the energy fails, especially in the case of a power failure, so that the individual using the device can easily climb off it. This is achieved in that an energy reservoir (11) whose energy can be released for raising of the top part (2) when the energy required for the motor drive (7) fails or is switched off, is loaded on motor-driven lowering of the top part (2). <IMAGE>
