An arrangement for machining at least one workpiece (7) has a plurality of machining heads (6) which come into use one after the other and of which in each case at least one can be connected to a supporting unit, traversable in the axial direction of a drive spindle, and can be released again from this supporting unit and which can be moved on a straight path towards the supporting unit and away from the latter in the same direction and can also be returned into its initial position. During the movement towards and away from the supporting unit, the machining heads are connected to one another by means of a connecting rod (25) guided in a frame (19, 20, 22). In order to create an arrangement for machining at least one workpiece, in which arrangement the machining head does not have to be returned on the same path and in which the machining head is free of the connecting rod at at least one location, the supporting unit is designed as a drive unit (4) having the work spindle and driving the machining head, whereas the workpiece is stationary during the machining. Provided in each case are machining stations, having a constant sum from in each case one drive unit, for workpieces and deposit stations for in each case one machining head as well as a number, exceeding this sum by the number "one", of transport devices (24) connected to one another by the connecting rod. <IMAGE>
