Underframe for rail vehicles, in particular for trams, are increasingly produced using light-weight metal in order to reduce weight. However, in order to make repairs easier, the side walls are constructed from steel. Therefore, according to the invention it is proposed to construct the longitudinal carriers 3a, 3b as steel profile carriers which are connected to a base plate 2 by means of blind rivets or by welding with interposition of a welding connector 6. As a result, it is possible to weld the steel columns 5 for the attachment of the side walls directly to the steel profile carriers 3a, 3b. <IMAGE>
