Brake lining for drum brakes, in particular vehicle drum brakes, which has a friction face which adapts to the rotating surface of the brake drum and, on the opposite side, a supporting surface for attachment to the brake anchor plate and embedded in the friction brake lining material of which are a reinforcing filler comprising oriented fibres and/or reinforcing elements of rod-like configuration. To reduce brake squeal and prolong their life, the reinforcing fibres and/or rod elements enclose an acute angle of between 20 and 70 DEG with the normal of the friction surface along at least 60% of their length in the vertical projection onto the plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the friction surface of the brake lining.
