<p>The present invention relates to the field of covering with tarpaulin, in other words laying or removing a flexible sheet on fixed or moving constructions of which the portion to be covered is a surface generated by a straight line. According to the invention, the method comprises: an uncovering operation, said tarpaulin being on the top part of a surface generated by a straight line at least rolled about a shaft to which one of the edges of said tarpaulin is fixed, the tarpaulin being allowed to unroll along said surface; and a recovering operation, said shaft being rotated on itself thereby causing the rolling of the tarpaulin about the shaft and lifting the roll thus formed up to the top part of said surface; this method is implemented by a drive device (6) rotating the shaft on which the tarpaulin (4) is rolled and unrolled, and displaced by means of a carriage (10) moving on rails (11).
