If saddle coils, for example filament-wound, are used for the horizontal and the vertical deflection, vertical stripes occur at the left-hand picture edge because of the mutual coupling of the coils, particularly in the case of short horizontal blanking times. According to the invention, these are avoided by symmetrically driving the horizontal deflection coils (LH) by connecting them to a symmetric primary winding (WI, WI') of the line transformer (ZTR). The centre tap of the primary winding is connected to the supply voltage for a switching transistor (TS), the collector of which is connected to one end (WI) of the primary winding.
