The device includes an edge-bordering rod (3) which is in the shape of a four-sided tube, conceals the end face of the covering material (1) and can be fastened on the surface of a supporting structure (2) by means of retaining members (4). A corner region of the bordering rod (3) is configured as an opening (3.1), running in the longitudinal direction of the rod, for receiving the retaining members (4) on the bordering rod (3). One end of each retaining member (4) is provided with a centring element (5) which secures the retaining member in the interior of the bordering rod (3) in a sprung fashion so that it is capable of longitudinal displacement, the surface of which centring element is designed so as to be substantially congruent with the interior contour of the bordering rod (3).
