The external confine of the variable-volume working chambers of spherical motor or spherical pump forms a hollow sphere. In it at least one swash piston moves, the axis of which is inclined slanting at an angle alpha to the output or drive shaft. With its surface facing the centre point of the sphere, the swash piston rolls on a counter- surface. The volume enclosed between hollow sphere, swash piston and countersurface is divided by at least one partition wall into a plurality of partial volumes, which are provided with inlet and exhaust ports. The main sphere of application of the spherical motor, which functions as a combustion engine, is in the propulsion of motor vehicles, whilst the spherical pump is especially suitable for the pumping of liquids and gases.
