PURPOSE:To obtain a reproducing picture with high image resolution and excellent picture quality by narrowering a band of a broad band video signal in a limited recordable band without losing amount of information so as to record and reproduce the signal. CONSTITUTION:The time axis of a partial video signal comprising a video signal at every other H is expanded 22 and the time axis of a partial video signal comprising another video signal at every other video signal is expanded 23. Further, the partial video signal from the circuits 22 and 23 is recorded and reproduced on separate tracks by using heads 9-14 respectively. Further, each reproduced partial video signal is time-compressed respectively so as to form a continuous video signal from respective outputted partial video signal. In this case, the video signal brought into a narrow band by the time axis expanding processings 22, 23 is recorded on two traks at the same time per unit picture period. |
