The device essentially comprises an upright conveyor (8) and a planar supporting wall (2) which is inclined slightly obliquely backwards. Above the upright conveyor (8) there is, along the lower edge of the supporting wall (2), a slot-like nozzle (12), the outlet aperture (11) of which projecting upwards a little in front of the supporting wall (12) and is supplied with air by means of a fan (16). The air leaving the nozzle (12) enters a wedge-shaped gap between the supporting wall (2) and a glass pane (9) leaning against this wall and forms an air cushion between them, which raises the glass pane (9) from the supporting wall (2). <IMAGE>
