The field of application relates to the single-handed clamping of workpieces of different sizes for the purposes of machining on DIY drill uprights and bench drills. The object of the invention is to provide a device that enables workpieces to be quickly and securely clamped in conjunction with a low outlay. According to the invention this object is achieved with a housing, in which a clamping claw and a clamping eccentric are respectively swivellably and rotatably connected to one another on horizontally arranged shafts, is guided with a vertically arranged bore on the column of a drill upright or a bench drill. In order to clamp a workpiece the clamping claw is simply placed on the workpiece and the clamping eccentric is actuated with the toggle located on the outside of the housing. The clamping claw then swivels downwards and presses the workpiece against the bearing surface. The housing need not be locked on the column because the guide between the column and housing is tilted as a consequence of the moment generated by the clamping force.
