PURPOSE:The titled composition, obtained by incorporating red phosphorus with an inorganic filler, e.g. aluminum hydroxide, and an organic substance, e.g. a phenolic resin, in a specific proportion, excellent as a flame retardant, and having reduced ignition danger without reducing mechanical and electrical characteristics of the resin. CONSTITUTION:A composition obtained by incorporating (A) red phosphorus or preferably stabilized red phosphorus coated with an inorganic or organic substance having <=100mu particle size with (B) an inorganic filler selected from aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, basic magnesium carbonate, basic zinc carbonate and hydrous aluminum silicate, (C) an organic substance selected from a phenolic resin, epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) copolymer, hexabromobenzene, decabromodiphenyl oxide, pentabromotoluene and chlorinated paraffin. The amounts of the components are as follows; 10-70wt% component (A), 0- 90wt% component (B) and 0-90wt% component (C).
