An apparatus for driving industrial manufacture transport units, having a carriage (20) which is displaceably mounted on a fixed support (10). The support (10) is formed by an extruded profile which has a central drilled hole (30) whose diameter is equal to the cylinder diameter of a compressed medium drive for the carriage (20). The support (10) can consequently be used for devices having a compressed medium drive and also for those having an electrical drive for the carriage (20). With compressed medium drive, the cylinder (30) is protected by integration in the support (10). The movable piston (44) in the cylinder (30) is advantageously connected to the carriage (20) by a pulling strip (54), which results in a compact construction. The unit has a high flexibility in relation to producing different lengths of stroke.
